How to choose the right handbag for your body type
Generally speaking when it comes to handbags, the opposite shape of your body type is the most flattering. When shopping, head to the dressing room, carry the bag as you normally would and check it out from all angles in the mirror.
Tall and thin
Choose handbags with a short, slouchy shape like the hobo. Avoid shoulder bags with a short strap as they will make you look even taller. Select handbags that are wider than they are tall. A clutch is a good choice.
Petite
Despite what you see in Hollywood, oversized bags aren't for small women. Large bags tend to overwhelm your frame. Avoid shoulder bags with a long strap as they will weigh you down, making you look even shorter.
Plus-size
Pick a large structured or boxy bag to balance out your curves. Don't carry a bag that is too small as it will make you look larger. If you love prints, steer clear of tiny patterns.
Everyone
If you are splurging on an expensive bag, choose one that you will be able to wear often. There's no need to spend $500 or more on a bag that will rarely make it out of your closet. If you are buying several inexpensive bags instead, pick one classic everyday bag in black or brown. Then, experiment with fun, funky styles and metallics for your other bags.
If you aren't sure about the different types of purses and bags, on the next page are some general guidelines to help you along the way.
Types of handbags
Handbags come in a variety of shapes, styles, fabrics and colors. They are designed, not only to hold your belongings, but also to make a fashion statement. When categorizing handbags, you should think of them in two different ways - the shape of the the bag and the way you carry it. First we will categorize bags by how you carry them.
Shoulder Bag
Shoulder bags come in many different shapes and sizes. They are fairly large and can normally hold your wallet, keys, cell phone, books, notepad, cosmetics and more. They are sometimes compartmentalized with different pockets both inside and out. These handbags are designed to be worn over the shoulder. Shoulder bags are very practical and perhaps the most common bag carried by women.
Clutch
A clutch is a type of handbag that doesn't have handles. It can be carried in your hand or tucked under your arm. Throughout the history of handbags, clutches have been relatively small and often reserved for evenings. Clutches can hold your keys, driver's license, a lipstick and that's about it. However in recent years, the "oversized" clutch has grown in popularity. These bags are designed the same as a regular clutch but they are much larger and can carry all your essentials.
Clutches can be soft-bodied, framed or even hard-cased. They come in variety of shapes and materials, including silk, patent leather and sequined fabrics. A clutch can be closed with a fold-over flap, top closure, zipper, push lock, drawstring or any number other types of closures.
Handheld bag
Obviously, these handbags are designed to be held by hand. They feature a small handle. They are not intended to be slung over the shoulder - these bags can only be handheld. They are normally smaller than a shoulder bag, but bigger than a clutch.
Tote bag
These casual bags are often made from canvas. Tote bags are open at the top and usually have only one main compartment. Tote bags are very big. When over your shoulder, tote bags usually fall around elbow length. Tote bags are good for the beach, outdoor activities or shopping.
Messenger bag
Messenger bags are also often called crossbody bags because of how they are worn. These bags are great because you can't loose them! Worn across the body, messenger bag come in a variety of styles and sizes. Crossbody bags are commonly worn by students and travelers.
Backpack
Another bag that is popular among students is the backpack. These bags have two straps and are intended to be worn on your back. Backpacks are great for carrying school books, notepads and other somewhat heavy items. They are normally made of nylon, but they can also be canvas or leather. Backpacks are also great for traveling, hiking, camping and other activities.
The style of handbag you choose depends on what you need to carry, where you are going and your personal style preferences. Many women have an favorite that they carry almost daily, only switching to a smaller or larger bag for special occasions or circumstances. Other women own dozens of handbags and switch their bag on a regular basis, matching it to their outfit, destination and mood.
Now that you understand the handbag categories by how you carry them, we will break it down a little further. On the next page, we discusses some of the more common shapes of handbags.
Handbag shapes
Hobo
A hobo bag is a soft body, crescent-shaped bag. These bags can be dressy or casual. Most hobos feature a top zipper closure.

A frame bag is a bag the has a hard frame, rather than a soft body. Frame handbags come in assortment of shapes, including satchels, doctor bags and bowling bags.
Envelope bag
An envelope bag is a clutch that is shaped like an envelope with a fold-over flap closure.
Wristlet
A wristlet is a very small bag that has a very thin strap to wear around your wrist. It holds very little - oftentimes less than a wallet. Wristlets have become popular in recent years, particular at night clubs when you don't want to set down your bag.
Evening bags
Special occasion or evening bags come in a variety of different shapes and styles. They can be mini-clutches, drawstring bags, small shoulder bags or any other variety of bag. Whatever shape and style, evening bags are normally shiny, featuring patent leather, sequins, crystals or jewels. Wedding dress fabrics:
You also need to consider your wedding gown fabrics, as this mainly affects your choice of trim or edging for the veil. For example, if your wedding dress is made in satin, then satin binding or satin ribbon edging on the veil looks lovely. A softer flowy fabric such as chiffon looks better with fine edging, such as satin cord trim or a pencil edge. Also, if your wedding dress has crystal beading, consider having some crystals scattered all over your veil. If your gown features pearl beading, then scattered pearls or pearl edging looks great on a veil. It’s all about co-ordinaton.
Another option is to have an elaborate veil with a simple uncluttered wedding gown. For example, Princess Mary of Denmark’s wedding dress was made in beautiful duchess silk, and had no beading or embellishment. She wore a mantilla veil, which was chapel length and featured lace trim, which created a very stylish, fabulous look, fit for a Princess!
Finally, your choice of veil will complete your overall look as a bride. Think about how you want to look on your wedding day and choose wisely. After all, your veil will be featured in all your wedding photos!

Taking winter pieces to spring
Summer dresses aren’t just for summer. Bring your summer frocks into spring this year by layering on your favorite winter cardigan or open-front sweater. Add a belt at the smallest part of your waist for an instant hourglass shape no matter what your figure. If Katie Holmes is doing it, you know it’s chic.
PBP
Forget the little black dress. This winter, you were looking for the perfect black pants and you found them. Now that it’s spring, don't shelve them to focus on your brighter spring colors. You can wear black year 'round; just go for lighter accent colors -- a fun top, belt, shoes or all three -- when you rock the black pant during the warmer months. Check out actress AnnaLynne McCord, who has warmed up her perfect pants with funky shoes, a light top and wow-factor belt.
These boots were made for walking… anytime
Don’t push your boots to the back of the closet because the weather is above freezing. Just wipe off the salt stains and get them ready for springtime wear. Boots can look super chic and springy when they’re paired with a flouncy skirt or dress. Katherine Heigl is rocking the look here, and she gets bonus points for the sweater. She’s totally mixing up her seasonal wear to hit the right level of warmth and style.
Sharp chic
Blazers are a classic for spring style. They work as a light spring jacket and add a tailored look to casual wear. Olivia Palermo exemplifies effortless chic with this blazer and skinny pant combo. If you’ve been wearing the same black suit all winter, take the jacket and use it as your spring blazer. Just remember to dryclean the entire suit together to keep both pieces the same color.
Peel off a layer
You know that jean and sweater go-to outfit you’ve been sporting this season? You don’t have to give it up just because it’s too warm for wool. Instead, ditch the sweater and replace it with a vest. Anything you layered under you sweater -- t-shirts, button-downs, even tanks -- will look good under a structured vest. Take a peek at Blake Lively pulling this basic undershirt and jeans into an outfit with a vest.
We can’t wait to get back to picking outfits based on style and comfort instead of pure warmth. We’ve been counting down the days since the first hint of winter. Whoot, whoot for warm weather!

Fashion Trends for Mens Fall 2009/Winter 2010
Purpose
The purpose of a trench coat is to keep you warm and to help protect your clothes from poor weather. Most of the time, the coat will be waterproof which will keep your clothes dry. It will also be wind resistant and keep you warmer on windy days. If you live in an area with different weather in different seasons, then a trench will be a useful item to add to your wardrobe.
Occasion
When buying a mens trench coat, determine the occasion you will wear the coat. Are you looking for something more conservative to wear to the office? Do you want something to wear over your suits? Or are you looking for something more casual to wear out at night or on the weekends. Depending on what type of occasion you plan to wear the coat, you will choose a different type. For the office, choose something that is neutral in color like tan or black and made of cotton or a cotton and polyester blend. Also, choose something that is hits at your knees in order to cover potential suit jackets. Finally, look for something that is more conservative in style such as one that is double breasted. However, if you are looking for something to go out in, look for something in a different fabric. Men's fashion designers are now making men's trenches in twill or jeans materials. They are also making them shorter and more stylish. These will fit a bit tighter on and you will not be able to wear a suit underneath.
Next, think about your own style. Do you tend to select clothes from Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic or are you more trendy and go with clothes from Club Monaco or Prada? Your own personal style will influence the type of trench you select. A coat is an important part of your own unique fashion style. Since you will wear the jacket a lot, select one that reflects your own tastes. Remember, a more conservative jacket will last you a lot longer than a trendier one. Sometimes, the trendier jackets will only last a few years. You may outgrow the style. However, the conservative one can last you upwards of 10 years and you can wear it as you get older.
